Metafoodx Recognized by MassLive for Work with UMass Amherst

Metafoodx was recently featured in MassLive for our work with the University of Massachusetts Amherst, highlighting how data-driven insight can support more efficient, responsible campus dining operations.

UMass Dining began piloting Metafoodx scanners in fall 2024. After evaluating the results, the university expanded the program, implementing the technology at Harvest Market and across all four Amherst campus dining halls this past fall.

Kathy Wicks, Director of Sustainability for UMass Dining, estimates the university could save $1 million or more annually by purchasing and preparing less food once the program is operating at full capacity.

For large institutions like UMass Amherst, even small improvements in forecasting and production can translate into meaningful financial and environmental gains. Metafoodx supports this work by capturing real-time data at the point of disposal, giving dining teams a clearer picture of what is happening on the service line and after meals are served.

We are proud to support UMass Dining as they continue refining their approach and demonstrating what is possible when insight replaces guesswork in food service management.
