Metafoodx Goes Mobile: Real-Time Kitchen Intelligence, Wherever You Are

Updated: 2 days ago

“The Ops Intelligence from the Metafoodx dashboard is powerful, but I’m spending more and more of my day on the go, visiting different stations and working away from my desk,” an executive chef told us.

We listened.

Kitchen managers and chefs shouldn’t have to return to a desk every time they want to check what’s happening during service. That feedback helped shape the new Metafoodx iOS app, which puts real-time kitchen data directly in your pocket.

Now, as you move through the kitchen, you can see what’s being consumed, spot high-demand items running low, catch scanning gaps, and identify overproduction while there’s still time to adjust.

“It's nice that you have this so quickly at your fingertips as you're walking around or you're down in the office. I can just pull it up quickly,” said Pete Allard, Assistant Manager of Hampshire Dining Commons at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

What's Inside the App

The app is organized around four parts of the kitchen manager’s day:

  1. Home gives you an at-a-glance view of your operation. Monitor consumption, overproduction, and scanning activity by venue in real time, making it easier to spot gaps and compare locations.

  2. Live View shows menu-item-level consumption and overproduction as service is happening. Search for specific items or filter by cost or volume to see what’s moving quickly and what you may want to scale back.

  3. Scan Log shows individual scans as they happen. Review scan images to check scanning procedures and how dishes are being prepared and presented, helping teams catch quality or process issues earlier.

  4. Manage gives you access to downloadable reports, with more mobile tools planned for the future.

Catering Mode

The Metafoodx app also brings real-time kitchen intelligence beyond the dining hall. With Catering Mode, Metafoodx devices capture consumption and overproduction for individual events, while the mobile app gives your team access to that information wherever the event takes place.

Menu-item-level data is organized under each event’s BEO number. From your phone, you can monitor live performance, review scan history, and download event reports.

Over time, that data can help your team understand how different event types and guest groups consume food, improving future catering forecasts while reducing unnecessary overproduction.

How to get started?

  1. Download the app — Search "Metafoodx" on the App Store

  2. Log in — Use your existing Metafoodx credentials. SSO is supported.

  3. Start exploring — Your Metafoodx data is now available wherever your day takes you.

The Metafoodx iOS app is available now, giving chefs and kitchen managers an easier way to stay connected to their operation without being tied to a desk. The Android version will be available soon.
